Who are we?

The Africa2Moon Mission has been initiated by the Foundation for Space Development, South Africa

The Foundation is an official partner organization of the UN Foundation’s #GivingTuesday initiative.

Established in 2009 to drive Space Awareness, Outreach and Education, the Foundation for Space Development is a South African registered nonprofit Organization, registration number 2009/010454/08.

The Foundation is providing the initial funding and human capital to during the incubation of the project.

It is expected that by the end of January 2015 the day to day operation of the program will be run by a multi-party executive from non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and private Space companies across Africa.

MISSION ADMINISTRATOR

Professor Peter Martinez
Professor Martinez is the programme convener for the space studies programme at the University of Cape Town (spacelab.uct.ac.za). He is also the Chairman of the South African Council for Space Affairs, the national regulatory body for space activities in South Africa, and was the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2011 International Astronautical Congress in Cape Town. He is an Associate Editor of the COSPAR journal Advances in Space Research and a member of various professional bodies in space science and technology.
PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR

Jonathan Weltman
Mr. Weltman studied Aeronautical Engineering at Wits and is the current CEO of the Foundation for Space Development. He was the Organizer of the 2011 International Astronautical Congress in Cape Town. He also works with Space Commercial Services Group, a pioneering company in the Space Industry in South Africa and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Space Daily! (spacedaily.co.za).
